Frequently asked questions |
- Will Ledals fit most bikes ?
"Yes, the Ledal has the widely used and standard 9/16 inch threaded spindle, this will fit the majority of bikes but please check your existing pedals first."
- How visible are Ledals in darkness ?
"Very ! In tests it was possible to see them from up to 1000 metres away. Also visibility is enhanced by the up and down motion of the two pedals when cycling, especially when used in flashing mode."
- I have changed pedals before so could I fit Ledals myself ?
"Yes, Ledals are fitted in exactly the same way as ordinary pedals."
- If the Ledal flips over won't the red and white lights be showing the wrong way around ?
"No. The Ledal detects which way up it is, this ensures that the lights always show white to the front and red to the rear."
- In darkness, if I momentarily ride past a bright lights such as a shop widow or a stationary car's headlights will my Ledals switch off ?
"No, the Ledals special circuitry 'samples' the background light to prevent this happening."
- If I transport my bike on the 'car rack' will the Ledals operate on their own when it gets dark ?
"No, the Ledal requires weight on the pedal in addition to darkness to make it work."
- Should I still use conventional lights if I have Ledals fitted to my bike ?
"Yes, by law each cycle still needs to meet the lighting regulations. The Ledal is a 'supplementary lighting system' which helps to make a cyclist much more visible to other road users."
- Can I use Ledals for 'stunt' or 'cross country' riding ?
"No, although the Ledal is as strong as the average pedal it has been designed and engineered to withstand normal cycling loads with considerate usage. We would recommend 'high strength' or specialised pedals for extreme types of riding."
- What sort of batteries does the Ledal use and how long will they last ?
"Each Ledal requires 4 x AAA alkaline batteries, we recommend high-quality, leak-proof batteries as these will last for several years with average usage (longer in flashing mode). Inferior batteries will produce 'acid' when flat and this will ruin the unit."
- If I damage my Ledals will I be able to buy any replacement parts ?
"Yes, when in production we hope to be able to supply most components at a reasonable price.
